Bad Weather Procedures
Rainstorm Warnings
AMBER signal
Parents, students, school authorities and school-bus drivers should listen to radio or television announcements on weather, road and traffic conditions.
Candidates for public examinations should attend the examinations as normal,but should listen to the radio or watch television in case the weather deteriorates suddenly.
RED or BLACK signal
Before school starts:
Classes will be suspended. Students should stay home.
School premises will be appropriately open and staffed to look after those students arriving or leaving, to ensure their safety.
Internal tests or examinations and outdoor activities will be postponed or cancelled.
When students have already set out for school:
Students should proceed to the school unless road or traffic conditions ahead are unsafe.
School bus drivers should listen to radio broadcasts on the development of the rainstorm and ensure that students will be taken to a safe place, normally the school, unless road or traffic conditions ahead warrant otherwise.
There will be no normal classes. Students arriving at school should remain there until it is safe for them to return home.
When school is in session:
Students should remain in school until the end of school hours and conditions are safe for them to return home. Parents do not need to collect their children from school immediately.
Typhoon Warnings
Hoisting of No.3 Signal
All Primary and Secondary schools will operate as normal, unless advised otherwise by the Director of Education.
Buses will operate as normal
Hoisting of Pre-8 Signal or No. 8 Signal
Before school:
The College will be closed and students will not be expected to report to school.
Students should not report to school until the following day.
Staff will not be expected to report for duty, except those who are required to do so in such emergencies.
All staff should report to work if the warning is lowered to Signal No. 3 or below before 12pm, transport and safety conditions permitting.
While school is in session:
All schools will close.
School buses are cancelled, and arrangements will need to be made by parents or guardians to collect students from school.
Students with pre-authorization (via signed permission form from parents) may depart the campus for home during the Pre-8 Signal.
Once the No. 8 or higher is hoisted, any student still on campus must remain there until it is safe for parents or guardians to collect them.
