English
English is the medium of instruction at Renaissance College, and English language proficiency enables students to realise their academic potential.
Ensuring students are able to engage with the curriculum in all areas is a priority. To this end, the provision of English as a Second Language (ESL) support is a fundamental aspect of the work of the languages faculty.
In the mainstream English course, students develop:
- A personal appreciation of literature
- Skills in literary criticism
- Strong writing, reading and speaking skills
- Respect for English language literary heritage
- An international perspective through the study of world literature
An inquiry-based learning approach is used, and students are encouraged to make connections between other curriculum areas.
In the MYP, the English language programme aims to further develop language skills and develop the critical skills needed for the analysis and appreciation of literature.
